What is an amigurumi?

The word "amigurumi" is Japanese, combining "ami" (meaning “to knit or crochet”) and "nuigurumi" (meaning “stuffed doll”). So, amigurumi means “knitted or crocheted doll.”

According to Japanese tradition, amigurumis are more than “just dolls”—they are meant to nurture the childlike spirit within all of us. Each amigurumi is believed to have a soul and will be our lifelong friend and confidant, offering protection and comfort.

Amigurumi is part of the kawaii culture, which means: cute, lovely, adorable... In Japan, they are commonly used as decoration in workplaces and also as good luck charms.

    Why don’t amigurumis have mouths?

As mentioned earlier, they are associated with concepts of friendship, companionship, and secrecy. A confidant you can tell all your secrets to—who will never reveal them.

Also, not having a mouth means they are not tied to any specific emotion, allowing people to identify with and project their own feelings onto them.
Your amigurumi is happy when you are happy.
